Two consecutive volumes of this uncommon Victorian boy’s magazine published by Edwin J Brett at Boys of England Office, Fleet St. London. An excellent example of the significant shift in boys' literature during the late 19th century, moving away from strictly educational content towards more entertaining and sensational narratives featuring young heroes which now reveal Victorian attitudes to race, gender and empire.

Bob Blunt the Traveller Volume 1. LVII chapters. 1 -208 pp. Eye catching illustrated black and red cover depicts the arrival of the travelling party in Africa. A further 13 full page b/w illustrations in excellent condition compliment the text. Covers in good condition, a little age worn as expected. Spine cracking to top and tail sections revealing binding underneath but otherwise sound. Pp.1 loosened from spine to bottom half. Spine staples rusty but remaining text block clean and sound. Collated and complete. Tells the tale of a trip to Africa.

Bob Blunt the Traveller Volume 2. XIII chapters. 209 -413 pp. Part 2 Abyssinia. Illustrated black and green cover depicts an African scene. Full page b/w illustrations numbered 14 -26 in very good condition (No 14 a little worn to one corner). Partial loss to 4 cm x 3 cm section of top front cover. Edges nicked. Spine cracked to top and tail revealing binding below but holding very well. Text block sound and in good, clean condition. Collated and complete. Tells the tale of an encounter with an African slave ship and the ‘savage horde’.
