In good condition. Panelled calf delicately blind ruled and embossed to front and rear. Corners bumped, a little chipped. Spine in 5 compartments, numbered 5 to top in worn gilt. Head and tail chipped, some loss to top compartment revealing section of binding underneath. Text block edges in good condition, dusty and age toned. Endpapers and flyleaves clean front and rear, age yellowed particularly to edges. Very sound internally. Leaves age toned throughout. Some worming confined only to top corners of p. 349 to end. Front pastedown contains contemporary ownership signature in black ink to top ‘J Frederick E Coll Omn: Anim: Oxon: 1726’ linking the text to a scholar at All Souls College, Oxford - this seems likely to be John Frederick of Wellingborough in the County of Northampton, born at Bampton Oct. 5, 1703; matriculated at University College, Oxford, Oct. 31, 1722, graduated B.A. from All Souls' in 1727, admitted to Gray's Inn in 1728 & became a Bencher in 1744. Underneath another signature in black reads ‘Dr H Whitakker’. Engraving to frontispiece titled Mahmut the Turkish Spy in very good condition. 359 pp.collated and complete. Measures 160 mm x 85 mm.
