GRAND ECOLE ENGINEERING SKETCH BOOK: Ecole Imperiale Centrale des Arts et Manufactures.... Album de Croquis: Dunin

Sketch book compiled by an engineering student at the Ecole Centrale in Paris, one of the most prestigious of the grand ecoles that trained engineers and inspired similar organisations around the world. The author of this sketch book produced his work in the academic year 1869-’70; the alumni records of the Ecole Centrale record that Dunin graduated in 1872, going on to perform military engineering work at Fort Bailly before taking on a senior role at the Compagnie du Orleans railway.

Oblong sketchbook (25x17cm) bound in black roan over pebbled green cloth with ‘Dunin 7’ in gilt to the upper cover; chipping to leather over spine. Pencil holder along foreedge - pencil not present. Printed title page accomplished by Dunin in brown ink giving his class details. A leaf of letter press printed instructions and a leaf of lithographed instructions. Beautifully executed in black ink, Dunin’s drawings are annotated to the page and opposite, his ‘1ere Lecon’ taking place on November 8, 1869. He has drawn arches, fittings, floor supports, a two-wheeled cart or carriage and railway details etc. 16 completed pages of drawings and accompanying annotated pages opposite.
