An offshoot of the famed British satirical magazine Punch, ‘Punch’s Pocket Book’ was an annual publication functioning simultaneously as a ledger, diary, almanac and source of entertainment and business information. This 1866 pocket book is full of Punch’s characteristic wit and wonderfully Illustrated by prominent English illustrators including John Tenniel (illustrator of Lewis Carol’s Alice in Wonderland), Charles Keene and CH Bennett.

DESCRIPTION : Vibrant red cloth covered wallet with fully functional closing flap. Chip to spine top approx. 1.5 cm in length revealing leaves within. Otherwise externally in good sound condition. Front pastedown loose from binding and cracked over hinges. Ownership details ‘Robert Chandler, 17 Pall Mall, London’ - a London hotelier - to verso of front free endpaper. Next flyleaf loose. Rear endpapers clean, in good condition. A stunning hand-coloured folding frontispiece opens out before the title page. 16 further engravings adorn the leaves throughout, all in very good condition. Cash accounts for 1866 have been hand entered by Chandler month by month. Diary entries record deaths of lords, earls and duchesses, birthdays, school holidays and Derby Day.
