In very good condition. An extremely decorative, incredibly detailed folding engraved map of Northumbria, 1811 by John Cary, cartographer and publisher (1755-1835). Map is encased in a contemporary speckled calf slip case in good condition showing some shelf wear, rubbing and moderate surface abrasion to edges and sides. An attractive gilt embossed spine reads ‘Northumberland’ lettered in gilt on red ground to top.

Map in very good condition with original colour in 9 sections measuring 55.5 cm x 50 cm. All panels sound and intact. A slim green fabric stitched to the map forms an attractive border. Visually the print is clear and clean. Two panels on reverse of map attractively decorated in a marbled linen form the front and reverse of the map when folded. ‘Northumberland’ lettered in black font over small white panel to front section. Rectangular stamp reading ‘RAISTRICK COLLECTION MAP No 4’ to rear of middle panel. Initials M.B. underlined in top corner of adjoining panel.

John Cary’s maps are considered the finest maps published in the early 19th century, remarkable in their accuracy and considered equal to the Ordnance Survey.
