An incomplete copy of William Penn’s defence of Quakerism. Original dark brown calf boards and panelled spine, both rubbed and slightly chipped, otherwise in good condition. Front endpapers yellowed with browning to all edges. Text block edges browned and puckered sitting a little proud of text block to fore edge. Owner’s details written in black ink, ‘E M Sutclife, Holme Farm, Horton in Ribblesdale’ on front pastedown. Rear pastedown very browned and cracked over inner hinges. Internal leaves browned throughout with some spotting. Spine shaken throughout text block exposing inner workings of binding particularly to front half. Signs of looseness throughout. Title page and preface (3 leaves in all) very loose with corner creases and puckering to fore edge and tops. Two leaves of preface held together by small metal staple to spine edge. 32 pages missing after preface resulting in text commencing on p.33. Remaining pages to pp.120 collated and complete. Publisher’s 1703 catalogue to rear of book. Stained and corners creased.
