A map produced by James Dawson as the third edition in 1854 and lithographed in Edinburgh. Cloth-backed coloured map, dated 1854 (73x56cm) folded to 14x18cm; a little spotting. ‘Map of Nova Scotia’ in ink to verso. Provenance: from the estate of the former Governor of Nova Scotia, General Sir Charles Trollope who held his post in Halifax from 1858-1861. The map colours Nova Scotia by its counties and depicts roads, rivers, topography, lakes, towns, and more. James Dawson was a Scottish emigrant to Nova Scotia who was involved in early surveying of the Prince Edward island, including production of the present map.
