From Laurie Lee’s personal collection, the poet’s copy of this anthology that he appears in, dating from the 1960s. Decorative paper covered boards, big bump at the base of the spine, in a very good jacket. Lee has written a somewhat dismissive original piece of verse in pencil to the flyleaf, gently mocking his fellow poets: ‘And in this Poets of our Time/ Is written verse o’ sloppier rhyme/ And under that almighty Finn [the editor F E S Finn]/ The queerest fish do enter in’. It would be interesting to know which of these poets Lee particularly objected to. There are no further marks to the text. This volume was recently deaccessioned from Laurie Lee’s library.
