A Restoration era play quarto from a collection compiled by the financier and book collector, Sir Isaac Lyon Goldsmid (1778-1859) and rebound by 'T Connolly' of Dublin. [6] pp38 [2], collated and complete as per the English Short Title Catalogue. Bound in half vellum over attractive marbled boards with black Morocco label with gilt lettering, red edges, last quarter of the 19th century, binder's ticket of 'T Connolly, 10 Up. Ormond Quay, Dublin'. In very good condition, the pages are browned with a tiny burn hole to the Epilogue and worm holes to the last few pages. Stab sewing holes visible. An old tick has been added to the title page along with occasional markings in red crayon to the dedication to Lady Wharton and the margins of the text. This opera libretto was translated by Peter Motteux and put into verse by 'Mr. Northman' from 'Il trionfo di Camilla' of Silvio Stampiglia, which was performed and published in Naples in 1696.Editor's dedication signed: Owen Swiny. Printed without the music by Giovanni Bononcini. An attractive copy which comes from an extensive Irish collection of quarto plays.
