On Downing Street headed paper, Ramsay Macdonald writes to the Chairman of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, Sir Josiah Stamp, to thank him after 'My daughter and I spent a most delightful day on Friday under the care of Lord Ritchie and yourself... We thoroughly enjoyed the trip down London River...[and] trust that the enterprise of your Company and the Port of London Authority in making this great improvement to the accommodation and facilities at Tilbury will be rewarded...' Signed by Macdonald in blue black ink. WITH Stamp's copy letter of the same day and two newspaper clippings. There is a small hole to Macdonald's letter close to the Downing Stret crest due to a rusty paper clip being used to hold the documents together. At the time of the letter Macdonald headed his second minority government; the following year Josiah Stamp was appointed to the government's Economic Advisory Panel.
