A lovely and uncommon little book which shows the stages of colour separation of a woodblock print in 20 plates, with the verso showing the block for each colour and the recto showing the progress of the print (Kiyonaga's ‘Ferry over the Sumida’).

Folded once in Japanese style. Softcovers just a little age toned to edges; upper illustration remains vibrant; sewn in 2 places using red silk; sewing very sound.

Introductory text in English and Japanese. Prints very good - a very small dark spot to the text block edge is only just visible along the fore edge of prints 19 - 20. Printed on handmade paper by The Shimbi Shoin Ltd. Collated and complete.
