Uncommon first edition from the library of Coker Court in Somerset, the parish which inspired T.S. Eliot's famous poem ‘East Coker’ from the Four Quartets. Half calf over marbled boards, spine just a little bumped to corners and nicked to one corner; otherwise very sound. Yellow endpapers display pasted in ‘Coker Court’ library label to front pastedown and a binders label from Porter and Custard Yeovil - the binding has been refurbished at some stage and the label relaid. Text block very fresh, unmarked with occasional brown spotting; marbled to all sides. Decorative head and tail pieces throughout. 376pp. collated and complete.

OCLC records only 1 copy only at The University of Cambridge.

Coker Court in the village of East Coker, Somerset, sits right next to the churchyard of St. Michael and All Angels, forming the historic heart of the parish where Eliot's ancestors lived and where his own ashes are interred. Eliot returned many times to trace his roots and the physical details of Eliot's walks through the village were translated directly into the opening lines of ‘East Coker’.
